Magnetic Order in Transition Metal Oxides with Orbital Degrees of Freedom

چکیده
We investigate the frustrated magnetic interactions in cubic transition metal oxides with orbital degeneracy. The eg orbitals order easier and their ordering explains the A-type antiferromagnetic phase in KCuF3 and LaMnO3. In t2g systems the magnetic order changes at a transition from an orbital liquid to orbital ordered states. The fluctuations of t2g orbitals play a prominent role in LaVO3 and YVO3, where they compete with the Jahn-Teller effect and trigger the C-type antiferromagnetic order.

Novel photoinduced phase transitions in transition metal oxides and diluted magnetic semiconductors
Some transition metal oxides have frustrated electronic states under multiphase competition due to strongly correlated d electrons with spin, charge, and orbital degrees of freedom and exhibit drastic responses to external stimuli such as optical excitation. Here, we present photoemission studies on Pr0.55(Ca1 - ySry)0.45MnO3 (y = 0.25), SrTiO3, and Ti1 - xCoxO2 (x = 0.05, 0.10) under laser ill...

Spin-orbital coupling: The study of orbital degeneracy in transition metal oxides is motivated, e.g., by the large variety of spin-charge-orbital ordered phases, the possible control of the orbital degree of freedom at interfaces and heterostructures, the switching from orbital ordered to metallic phases in applied magnetic fields, and the colossal magnetoresistance. The rather complex interpla...

Rich properties of systems with strongly correlated electrons, such as transition metal (TM) oxides, is largely connected with an interplay of different degrees of freedom in them: charge, spin, orbital ones as well as crystal lattice. Specific and often very important role is played by orbital degrees of freedom. They can lead to a formation of different superstructures (an or-bital ordering) ...
متن کاملPure electronic metal-insulator transition at the interface of complex oxides
In complex materials observed electronic phases and transitions between them often involve coupling between many degrees of freedom whose entanglement convolutes understanding of the instigating mechanism. Metal-insulator transitions are one such problem where coupling to the structural, orbital, charge, and magnetic order parameters frequently obscures the underlying physics. Here, we demonstr...
متن کاملOrbital Ordering and Orbital Fluctuations in Transition Metal Oxides
We summarize some characteristic features of the frustrated magnetic interactions in spin-orbital models adequate for cubic transition metal oxides with orbital degeneracy. A generic tendency towards dimerization, found already in the degenerate Hubbard model, is confirmed for t2g but not for eg systems. In the t2g case the quantum orbital fluctuations are more pronounced and contribute to a st...
